Known for its crystal clear waters, Montenegro has long been a popular spot for sailing. From the ancient trading ships that used to cross its waters, to it’s more modern reputation as an alternative mediterranean  superyacht destination . Boasting breathtaking scenery, lively nightlife and a new spread of places to berth, Montenegro is becoming the popular choice of Captains. Particularly those with passengers looking for mediterranean offerings, but without the crowds.

Captain Collins of the 48m M/Y Mary A, currently docked in Porto Montenegro, discusses his opinion of stopping in Montenegro within his recent piece for  The Crew Report , particularly focusing on how Montenegro’s central Adriatic location is perfect if ‘ you are heading to Turkey or Greece ‘. Adding to its portfolio of destinations to dock, Montenegro last week turned its attentions to the Luštica peninsula, where  Luštica Bay resort  hosted a glamorous event to launch construction of its new 120 berth marina, and to welcome its first 100 homeowners.

Attended by Montenegro’s elite, the evening was a huge success, with international press even flying in to report on the events of the evening. Speeches on the night came from Montenegro’s Prime Minister and  Orascom  Chairman, Samih Sawiris. Representing the new community forming at Luštica Bay first homeowner, Ivana Maksimovic, had a pinnacle role during the evening, as she lit the symbolic flaming arrow. It was an exciting evening and marked a significant moment in the landmark Montenegrin development.
